firewall protects your computer against viruses. turning it off would allow virus from the internet and other sources to infect your pc. however there are better firewall than that of windows.. anyway, i recommend to turn it on
I just answered a question like this.... Switch it on and leave it on, turning it off defeats its purpose.
its always safe to turn ON your firewall, it keeps intruders out of your computer
well, windows firewall protect your pc agaist some minor threads, but i recommend using a better firewall like zone alarm. Choosing off is like you leave a hot blonde chick naked in NY streets.... night time

Your firewall will be turned off. What will happen? Maybe nothing. But there are many people running robotic programs that look for vunerable computers and your's just may be hit. I don't use firewalls on my computers. I have a linux distro called smoothwall in between my network and the WAN. It is the firewall so I don't have to have it on my computers. Many routers also have this function.
You are electing to secure your Firewall so that it is not monitoring your network that is all.


When you want to turn it back on just click on it again. You will be reminded on your BAR that you have the Firewall off.

The on button would be the most secure. Though, it way vary depending on how you have your firewall settings set up.





You will see that there are tabs that say ';exceptions';, and ';advanced'; as well. If you select the ';on'; button, the firewall will basically attempt to block any program from accessing the internet and/or a program and/or computer from over the net from accessing your computer. It will give you a prompt that will tell you what is going on and it will have what is recommends selected, but you can change it if you like.





If you opt. to allow a program on to access the net or have one access your computer, than it may automatically be added to the ';exceptions'; tab. That is if you select the ';always allow'; option from the prompt in the windows firewall.





You can also manually add programs or computers to the exceptions tab without going through all of that prompt business. Just go to ';exceptions'; and select ';add program';. Than select from the list and give the extent of your exception and there ya go!





You can opt. to have the firewall to ';off'; but if you download from the net, you may be an easy target for a virus or worste... spyware! So if I were you and enjoyed having decent performance from your machine I would have the firewall on and maybe a few other security measures.

On is secure. But I would recommend extra firewall protection by getting other firewall software.
You can't trust on net. There is no site which can be termed as safe. Please keep your firewall on always at the time of surfing atleast. Prevention is always better than cure.
