Wow! I haven't seen one of those in a LOONG time, you're better off getting Johson controls.
BUT%26lt; you need to make sure the smaller handle is in Neutral. And the larger handle (your throttle) is far foward. Open the choke, start the engine and when it starts, pull the throttle back to IDLE. Throw the smaller handle into FOWARD (or reverse if you need to back out) and away you go. Happy Boating.
By the way, if you are in salt water, get a different motor. Mercury's are notorious for being horrible in salt water.How do you use the old Mercruiser controls for starting a 2 handled unit with a choke button?
Morse controls are even better!
